“what you’ve got there is dead”

Walking down the street this evening, I paid mind to all the people walking opposite my direction.  This was the first time that I noticed something that had never bothered me before: a child consuming a hot dog.  The child was clearly overjoyed at this portable meal given to her by her parents.  Her joy made it clear that she had no idea what had occurred in order for her to have a hot do at her disposal.

There was a similar occurrence a while back, where I saw a relatively young father with his son at a fast food place eating.  This boy, no more than 4, super excited about chicken nuggets: a couple of pieces of death in a box.

It really didn’t bother me in the past.  But lately, the consumption of meat has been bugging me a lot. I no longer understand what the greatness of meat is.

Also, the thought of having children myself has brought other questions up: Will i raise my children to be vegetarian/vegan?  Will I let them decide for themselves if they would like to eat meat?  Will I be preparing meat dishes for my children even though I will not be consuming it? Will I be consuming it because of them?

So many questions. So many thoughts.
